Big Win in Wootton Bassett secures another Lib Dem Town Councillor

Former Town Hall, by Chris Downer

Lib Dem candidate Marion Sweet swept to victory in Tuesday 10th January's by-election.

Marion won 54% of the vote, and takes up her place on Royal Wooton Bassett Town Council.

Cllr Jon Hubbard (Wiltshire Council Lib Dem Group Leader) said "Marion has worked hard for Wootton Bassett for many years, and I know she will continue to represent local people's interests on the Town Council. The local people spoke loud and clear; they didn't want just another Conservative Councillor, they wanted a Lib Dem who will really represent them. Little by little, we're turning the tide against the Conservatives who have failed to represent the people of Wiltshire for so long."

Marion Sweet received 389 votes, whilst the Conservative got 331, on a turnout of 20.9%.
